National Guard member SARAH BECKSTROM has died after shooting in Washington DC, TRUMP announces

Friday, November 28, 2025 -A 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, a member of the West Virginia National Guard, has died after being wounded in a shooting near the White House on Wednesday, according to Donald J. Trump. The shooting also injured another guard member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, who remains in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as a 29-year-old Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, reportedly drove across the country before carrying out an “ambush-style” attack near a metro station not far from the seat of U.S. power.

The FBI is investigating the assault as a suspected act of terrorism, and prosecutors have now upgraded the charges against Lakanwal to murder.

In his first remarks since the attack, the president described Beckstrom as a “highly respected, young, magnificent person,” and announced her passing during a Thanksgiving-day call with U.S. service members.

The event has shaken the capital and triggered renewed debate over immigration, national security, and the deployment of federal troops in Washington — subjects likely to spark urgent policy discussions in the coming days.
