LIAM PAYNE death inquest delayed for eyewitness evidence

Friday, November 7, 2025 -A coroner is seeking comprehensive reports and eyewitness accounts before a final inquest into the demise of former One Direction member Liam Payne, as reported during a pre-hearing review.

Senior coroner Crispin Butler informed Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court on Thursday that ongoing investigations in Argentina are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding Payne’s passing. The 31-year-old singer, who resided in Bushbury, Wolverhampton, succumbed to his injuries in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

The inquest was postponed until a further pre-inquest review scheduled for May 7, 2026. The post-mortem examination report revealed that Payne succumbed to multiple traumas and internal and external hemorrhage resulting from his fall from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.

A court in Argentina dismissed charges against three out of the five individuals who had been suspects in connection with Payne’s death. The coroner in Buckinghamshire has been provided with initial documentation pertaining to the autopsy conducted in Argentina and an initial police scene report, as confirmed by Mr. Butler.

The documentation will undergo formal translation prior to the coroner’s engagement with the singer’s family in preparation for the inquest. Furthermore, the coroner is requesting the receipt of comprehensive reports, including eyewitness statements and other pertinent evidence, to address the statutory inquiries posed at a final inquest.

Specifically, the coroner is seeking to ascertain the identity of the deceased, the definitive medical cause of death, the time, location, and manner of his demise.
