Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - Iranian authorities on Tuesday, November 11, carried out a public execution for a man convicted of killing a physician in the country’s southwest, according to the judiciary.
Mizan Online, the judiciary’s official outlet, reported that
“the qisas (retribution) sentence for the murderer of Dr Davoudi… was carried
out in public this morning in Yasuj,” the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad
province. The judiciary said the verdict came after a mental health evaluation
of the defendant and a final approval from the Supreme Court.
Provincial prosecutor Vahid Mousavian said the execution was
meant to send a warning, declaring that “the implementation of this sentence is
a message to those who seek to disturb the security of society and citizens.”
Iran, which performs executions by hanging, remains the
world’s second most prolific executioner after China. While most executions
take place behind prison walls, authorities occasionally carry them out in
public.
