Food stamps are back, but millions will soon lose benefits permanently

Sunday, November 16, 2025 -The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, has resumed benefits for eligible Americans, offering critical support amid ongoing economic challenges.

Federal authorities confirmed that new payments are being processed and recipients should see funds in their accounts soon.

However, officials warn that millions of Americans could lose benefits permanently in the coming months.

Changes in eligibility rules and expiration of emergency pandemic-era provisions mean that households previously receiving assistance may no longer qualify. Recipients are being urged to review their status and update any required documentation.

Advocates for low-income families stress the importance of planning for the transition, noting that the loss of benefits could significantly impact household food security.

State and local agencies are preparing outreach campaigns to help families navigate the changes and access alternative support programs.
