‘Ferocious’ winter storm poised to slam Midwest with heavy snowfall

Monday, November 10, 2025 -A powerful winter storm is barreling through the Midwest, with the National Weather Service warning that some areas could see up to eight inches of snow overnight Sunday.

The system, described by forecasters as “ferocious,” is expected to bring dangerous travel conditions, power outages, and frigid wind chills from Chicago to parts of Wisconsin and Michigan.

According to Block Club Chicago, the heaviest snow bands are likely to hit during the early morning hours, with gusts exceeding 40 mph creating whiteout conditions across key highways and commuter routes.

City and state officials have already begun emergency preparations. Chicago’s Department of Streets and Sanitation deployed hundreds of salt trucks and plows ahead of the storm, urging residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Airlines operating out of O’Hare and Midway have issued widespread cancellations and rebooking options for travelers. “This is a fast-moving, high-impact storm,” the Weather Service cautioned, adding that the combination of snow and wind could make cleanup efforts difficult through Monday morning.

The timing couldn’t be worse, as the early November storm threatens to disrupt post-weekend commutes and holiday supply chains already under pressure from the ongoing government shutdown.

With temperatures expected to plunge into the teens by dawn, forecasters warn of a rapid freeze following the snowfall, heightening the risk of black ice. Residents are advised to prepare for possible power interruptions, stock up on essentials, and check in on vulnerable neighbors as one of the season’s first major winter blasts bears down on the region.
