Friday, November 7, 2025 -On Friday, the United Kingdom removed sanctions from Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa, in accordance with a resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council earlier that day.
The British government also announced the removal of sanctions from Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab. This decision was announced in a statement by the British government.
Yesterday, the UN Security Council approved a resolution to remove the names of the Syrian president and interior minister from the international sanctions list. The resolution was passed with a vote of 14 members in favor, with China abstaining.
During his participation in the COP30 climate summit in Brazil, President Al Sharaa expressed his support for the decision, stating that it represents a positive step forward. He acknowledged that numerous countries have contributed to the lifting of sanctions and the repositioning of Syria on the regional and international stage.
