UN appeals for humanity as El-Fasher faces desperate siege

Tuesday, October 28, 2025-The United Nations has issued an urgent plea for safe passage for thousands of civilians trapped in El-Fasher, a war-torn city in Sudan’s Darfur region that has become the epicenter of renewed violence.

Weeks of intense fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces have turned residential areas into battlefields, leaving hospitals overwhelmed and supply routes cut off. UN officials warn that without immediate humanitarian access, famine and mass casualties are imminent.

Global reaction has been one of alarm and frustration. Aid agencies report being blocked from reaching affected populations, while satellite images show widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

Diplomats have condemned the escalation, accusing both sides of violating international law. Survivors’ testimonies describe horrific scenes of starvation and displacement, as families hide from shelling and search desperately for water and medicine. Calls for a ceasefire have so far gone unanswered.

Humanitarian experts fear El-Fasher could become a symbol of international failure if urgent action is not taken. The crisis exposes the limits of diplomacy in a conflict marked by ethnic violence and power struggles.

As negotiations stall and aid convoys remain grounded, the fate of tens of thousands now depends on whether the world acts decisively—or once again watches tragedy unfold in silence.
