Olympic gender-row boxer claims victory in just 94 seconds on return to the ring leaving female opponent ‘out of breath’

Thursday, October 23, 2025 - Olympic boxer Lin Yu-ting claimed victory her return to the ring by knocking out her opponent in just 94 seconds.

Lin, 29, won gold in the featherweight division at Paris 2024 despite being disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing a gender eligibility test.

The Taiwanese boxer has been the subject of controversy due to her gender status.

The fighter is not transgender and identifies as female on her passport.

Two years ago IBA officials found tests showed Lin had XY chromosomes — which indicates a person is biologically male.

Rare intersex medical conditions, medically known as differences in sexual development (DSDs), can also mean outwardly female individuals can have male chromosomes, or vice versa.

World Boxing introduced mandatory genetic s£x testing for all boxers aged over 18 in August in order to better determine eligibility for its competitions.

The decision saw Lin – and fellow gender row boxer Imane Khelif, who also won gold at the Paris Games in the welterweight division – being absent from the ring for an extended period of time.

But domestic rules at Taiwan‘s National Games allowed Lin to compete in the women’s 60kg division.

The Taiwanese boxer defeated opponent Pan Yan-fei in the first round of their bout with incredible ease.

According to local reports, Pan, 19, sustained several head shots and appeared short of breath.

The university student’s coach threw in the towel forcing the referee to abandon the match.

Pan’s condition was described as stable after her defeat but no more medical details were released.

After the fight, Lin’s coach Tseng Tzu-chiang described the win as “routine” and would not be drawn on regulatory matters.
