US Naval Academy reports no shooter threat after security alert

Friday, September 12, 2025 -Officials at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, confirmed Friday that no active shooter threat was present on campus following a security alert.

The Academy had temporarily locked down some areas as a precaution while authorities investigated reports of a possible threat. Students and staff were instructed to shelter in place until the situation was clarified.

The alert sparked concern among families and the local community, with some expressing frustration over the uncertainty and disruption to normal campus activities.

Naval Academy officials emphasized that safety protocols were followed and that there was no evidence of a credible threat at any point. Social media posts about the incident circulated quickly, but authorities urged the public to rely on verified information.

The Naval Academy said it would review the incident to improve communication and response procedures for future emergencies.

While classes and training exercises resumed later the same day, the alert serves as a reminder of the importance of rapid security assessments in educational institutions, particularly those with sensitive military operations.
