TRUMP administration moves to revoke SouthCoast Wind permit

Sunday, September 21, 2025 -The Trump administration has taken steps to revoke federal approval for the SouthCoast Wind project, a major offshore wind farm planned off the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management asked a federal court to withdraw its earlier authorization, which was granted in January.

Officials argue the project’s approval may not have fully met legal and environmental requirements. SouthCoast Wind, designed to power more than 800,000 homes with over 100 turbines, cannot proceed without the permit.

The developer, Ocean Winds, has vowed to fight the move in court, while environmental and labor groups warn the decision could delay clean energy growth, cost jobs, and undermine investment confidence in offshore wind.
