Thursday, September 11, 2025 - Eight boys from Khomani Primary School in Soweto were allegedly r@ped at gunpoint by an adult after being drugged by a fellow Grade 7 pupil.
The incident has prompted outrage and an immediate response
from education authorities.
According to Gauteng education department spokesperson Steve
Mabona, preliminary reports indicate a Grade 7 student stole a cold drink from
a local shop, drugged it, and then gave it to the eight victims. After
consuming the beverage, the boys were taken to an adult who allegedly assaulted
them at gunpoint.
The adult suspect has been arrested and is in police
custody. The Grade 7 pupil believed to have orchestrated the attack has been
suspended from school, with a disciplinary hearing scheduled for September 17.
Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane condemned the
incident, describing it as an "unspeakable act" that should never
happen to any learner. The department has arranged psychosocial support for the
affected pupils and their families, with additional assistance provided by The
Teddy Bear Clinic.
Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to
determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
