Israel fires missiles over Red Sea in Qatar strike

Thursday, September 18, 2025 -Israeli fighter jets launched ballistic missiles from over the Red Sea in a strike that hit Doha, Qatar, killing six people.

U.S. officials said the missiles targeted a meeting of Hamas leaders who were discussing ceasefire proposals at the time. The attack marked one of the boldest moves of the conflict, reaching into a Gulf state that has acted as a key mediator.

Military analysts noted the missiles followed an unusual “over-the-horizon” trajectory, flying high into the atmosphere before descending toward Doha.

This tactic allowed Israel to avoid entering Qatari airspace directly, complicating defense systems and limiting the risk of interception. The strike showcased a significant escalation in Israel’s long-range capabilities.

Qatar denounced the attack as a violation of its sovereignty and warned it could undermine ongoing mediation efforts. Regional powers expressed alarm over the precedent of launching such weapons across shared waters, fearing wider instability. The strike has further strained ceasefire negotiations and deepened uncertainty over the conflict’s trajectory.
