Saturday, September 27, 2025 -Inter Miami midfielder and multiple title winning ex-Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets announced on Thursday night, September 25 that he will retire from professional football following the conclusion of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.
The 37-year-old Spanish star shared the
news via a video message on his Instagram page
“These will be my last months on the
pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,”
Busquets said in the video. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football
for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”
Known for his expertise as a defensive
midfielder, Busquets is a legend of the Catalan club, FC Barcelona, where he
won nine Spanish league titles and three Champions League trophies.
On the international stage, Busquets
earned 143 caps for Spain. He was a crucial component of the national team's
golden era, helping them secure the 2010 World Cup victory and the 2012
European Championship triumph. He ended his international career following the
2022 World Cup.
Busquets moved to the United States in
2023 to join Inter Miami, where he reunited with his longtime former Barcelona
teammate, Lionel Messi.
