Saturday, September 20, 2025 - Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci have ended their relationship after nearly two years together.
In a joint statement released on Friday, September 19, the
Oscar-nominated filmmaker and the Italian actress confirmed their split,
saying, “It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica
Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways.” The pair did not disclose
the reason behind the breakup.
The couple first sparked romance rumors in 2023, almost two
decades after initially meeting on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival
in 2006. Their relationship was confirmed when Bellucci, in an interview with
Elle France in June that year, described their connection as “one of those
encounters that rarely happens in life,” adding that she loved Burton and had
“great respect for” him.
Burton directed Bellucci in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024),
where she played Delores LaFerve, the vengeful ex-wife of Michael Keaton’s
character. Their last public appearance together was at the Taormina Film
Festival in Italy on June 14, where they appeared affectionate on the red
carpet.
Burton, 66, was previously in a long-term relationship with
actress Helena Bonham Carter between 2001 and 2014. The former couple share two
children and collaborated on several films, including Sweeney Todd, Alice in
Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Bellucci, 59, was married to actor Vincent Cassel from 1999
to 2013, with whom she has two daughters. She later dated French artist Nicolas
Lefebvre from 2017 to 2019.
