Gunman who murdered ex-prison officer jailed for 45 years

Thursday, September 4, 2025 -A gunman has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of a former prison officer in what prosecutors described as a calculated act of revenge.

The victim, targeted because of his past role in law enforcement, was shot dead in a brutal attack that shook the local community and reignited debate over violence against public servants.

The sentencing drew strong reactions from both sides; the victim’s family expressed relief that justice had been served, while campaigners noted that the case highlighted the risks faced by those working in the prison system even after retirement.

Social media quickly picked up on the story, with many calling the sentence a necessary deterrent and others questioning how the attacker was able to carry out such a premeditated crime.

Legal experts say the lengthy jail term underscores the judiciary’s stance on revenge crimes, particularly against individuals connected to the justice system. Authorities have urged vigilance and better protection for prison officers and other frontline workers who may remain vulnerable long after leaving service.

The ruling, they added, should send a clear message that such acts of violence will be met with the harshest penalties.
