Wednesday, August 13, 2025 - Sean Kingston is asking a federal judge to let him serve his prison sentence at home, citing his community work and clean record. Kingston and his lawyer filed documents Tuesday requesting a sentence of 2 to 2.5 years at his sentencing hearing on August 15, far below the 5 to 6 years recommended by federal guidelines.
The filing highlights Kingston’s charitable efforts,
including organizing toy drives, feeding the homeless, and collecting clothing
for those in need. “He did not just donate money, he rolled up his sleeves and
served countless dinners to those in need,” his attorney said. The documents
also include photos of Kingston engaged in this community service.
Kingston has been on house arrest since April while out on
bond and has been working on music in his home studio. His lawyer argues that
allowing him to serve his sentence at home would benefit the victims, some of
whom have already received restitution.
Several character letters support Kingston’s request,
including testimonials from his sister Kanema Morris, a local grocery store
clerk, a delivery driver, and songwriter Constantin Chavez, who has worked with
Kingston.
Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted of
wire fraud in March. Turner has already been sentenced to five years in federal
prison, while Kingston hopes the judge will grant him a lighter sentence and
home confinement.
