Friday, July 11, 2025 - A 33-year-old Oklahoma mother, Brennan Spencer, is facing second-degree murder charges after her infant son was found unresponsive at her feet following a night of drinking.
According to the arrest affidavit, Spencer went to bed intoxicated with
her newborn twins after reportedly downing White Claw hard seltzers with her
partner, James Kelson. She later woke up with one baby in her arms — and the
other lifeless at her feet.
According to People, the incident happened in November 2024, but charges
were filed in July 2025 after months of investigation.
Kelson told police the couple shared a 12-pack of White Claw before he
went to bed. Spencer allegedly went out to buy more around midnight, with CCTV
showing her at a nearby 7-Eleven purchasing four extra tall cans.
By morning, she had passed out on the couch with the twins. The baby boy,
RK, was no longer breathing. His death was later ruled asphyxia due to an
unsafe sleeping environment.
Authorities allege Spencer’s level of intoxication created conditions that
led to the baby’s death. A child abuse examiner concluded the infant was a
victim of neglect.
Spencer remains in custody with bail set at $500,000. Her partner, who is
not facing charges, has taken to Facebook to seek legal help for what he
described as an "accidental death" case.
Her court hearing is scheduled for August 5.
