Tuesday, July 1, 2025 - A man believed to be a pastor,
and a woman said to be married, were subjected to public humiliation in the
Iguomon community, located on the outskirts of Benin City, Edo State, over
allegations of infidelity.
A video capturing the disturbing incident went viral on
Monday, showing the pair being stripped and mocked by a mob.
Eyewitnesses recount that the man had allegedly been
involved in an extramarital affair with the woman before they were caught in a
compromising situation.
According to reports, a group of irate youths forcibly
removed the man from a residence, stripped him completely, and forced him to
sit on the ground. The woman was also pulled out, ridiculed, and eventually
stripped naked by a female member of the crowd.
The scene drew a sizable number of onlookers, some of whom
filmed the incident with their phones.
Reacting to the video, activist Marxist Kola Edokpayi of the
Talakawa Parliament condemned the mob action, stressing the dangers of jungle
justice.
“We condemn jungle justice in its entirety. What the people
did in that community cannot be justified. The matter should have been reported
to the police who will take appropriate action,” Edokpayi stated.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police
Command, Moses Yamu, said the matter had not been officially reported.
“We are not in a position to act based on a viral video. As
of now, the case has not been brought to the attention of the police,” Yamu
said.
