Thursday, February 16, 2023 – The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has broken silence after one of their employees identified as Mary Waithera, a manager at NHIF Nairobi branch, was shot on Monday in the CBD under mysterious circumstances.
In a statement released after Waithera’s mysterious death was reported, NHIF urged members of the public to stop speculating about the unexplained death and allow police to conduct investigations.
“NHIF wishes to advise members of the public to avoid speculation and to allow relevant investigative authorities to conclusively handle the matter surrounding her untimely death,” the statement read in part.
Waithera was confirmed dead at a Nairobi hospital on Monday evening where she was rushed after collapsing while walking along Kaunda Street.
She complained of sharp pain before collapsing.
After collapsing, police officers on patrol rushed her to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
It was only after a postmortem examination conducted at the Kenyatta University mortuary on Tuesday that a pathologist discovered a bullet lodged in her lungs.
Strangely, no one saw blood on the ground where Waithera lay after she fell.
Further complicating the matter is how the killers managed to make sure that the sound of the gunshot was not heard.
The killers could have used a sosphisticated weapon or a silencer to muzzle their weapon.
Police believe that the person who fired the killer shot was somewhere within an adjacent building where they had a clear view of the deceased.
