Wednesday, February 16, 2022 – In a clever move to appease ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula and the entire Kikuyu nation, Deputy President William Ruto has revealed that he will be a one-term president.
Speaking on Monday during the second phase of consultative engagements in Nyeri County, Ruto claimed that he will not seek another term should he win the August 9, presidential elections.
He noted that he is no longer interested in serving the people of Kenya for 10 years as per the agreement he had with outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
“I know we had a conversation with the President about my supporting his 10 years and his returning a hand for my 10 years.”
“However, I don’t want 10 years now, I want us to agree on a five-year plan.
“If successful, add five more. If I fail, let us get a new person as a president,” Ruto said amid cheers from the Kikuyus who are counting on the DP to make one of them his running mate.
According to Ruto, he will renounce a second term if he fails to keep his first-term promises.
However, many pundits have argued that it would be difficult for young Ruto to abandon the presidency after only one term, terming his promise as a political scheme to hoodwink Mudavadi and the Kikuyus to support him in this election.
US-based Law Professor Makau Mutua said Ruto could change the Constitution to abolish presidential term limits and rule for life if he becomes president in August.
