Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – They say only a fool does not change his mind. Well, Deputy President William Ruto has taken the saying literally and changed how he has been operating ahead of the August 9th General Election.
Ruto changed strategy after realizing that his main competitor, Raila Odinga, was doing much better by his approach which is yielding fruits.
After holding several rallies across the country, Ruto has now shifted to town hall meetings aimed at deliberating his bottom-up economic model across the 47 counties in Kenya.
Ruto believes that this strategy, which is a leaf from Raila’s campaign book, will counter Azimio movement forays whose modus operandi has been about holding meetings in every region to listen to residents’ grievances and pledging to address them.
Ruto’s town hall meetings started in Nyeri yesterday and entailed listening to issues small-medium businessmen and women want which he promised to address if he is elected president.
“Kenya Kwanza. Nyeri today (yesterday) hosted the first of 47 Bottom-Up Economic Model conversation sessions,” he tweeted.
“Hustlers – mama mboga traders, Boda Boda riders, tea, coffee, avocado and other farmers and small business owners – will hold discussions with us on the issues they want our next government to give priority in the county,” the DP stated in a tweet yesterday.
Just like the Azimio model, the meetings will culminate in the signing of charters in each of the 47 counties.
