Turkish President visits Karabakh for Azerbaijan's Victory Day celebrations

Sunday, November 8, 2026 - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has arrived in Azerbaijan's Karabakh region to join President Ilham Aliyev in marking the country's Victory Day on November 8, 2026.

Erdoğan was welcomed by Aliyev at Fuzuli International Airport, accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan and a high-level Turkish delegation. The visit highlights the close relationship between Ankara and Baku and comes at a significant moment for both countries as they seek to strengthen political, economic and security cooperation.

During the visit, Erdoğan and Aliyev are scheduled to hold bilateral discussions in Shusha, focusing on expanding cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan while addressing important regional and international developments.

The programme also includes visits to memorial sites in Khojaly and Khankendi, followed by an official gathering. The two leaders are expected to address their countries' shared priorities and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation.

The visit also carries diplomatic significance following recent tensions between the two allies over domestic policy disagreements and diplomatic engagements. Erdoğan has previously expressed confidence that the relationship between the countries can overcome existing challenges.

His presence at the Victory Day celebrations therefore provides an opportunity to reinforce diplomatic communication and restore momentum in bilateral relations. Attention will now turn to the outcome of the leaders' meeting and any announcements concerning future cooperation in the South Caucasus.
