Sudan’s BURHAN vows to continue military campaign until ‘every inch’ retaken

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has rejected negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces and vowed to continue the military campaign until his forces regain control of territory held by the paramilitary group.

Speaking in northern Sudan on October 6, Burhan said the army would pursue the fight until the country was fully cleared of what he described as the rebellion.

The declaration comes as fighting continues across Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile, with the army seeking to build on recent gains while the RSF maintains control over large areas.

The conflict, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 13 million people, while humanitarian conditions remain critical.

Burhan’s stance puts military pressure ahead of the diplomatic efforts currently seeking a ceasefire and a path toward civilian rule.

A U.S. envoy recently met Burhan in Egypt as Washington and regional partners pushed for a Sudanese-led political process, but the army chief’s latest comments indicate that negotiations remain far from the immediate priority for his side.

With fighting spreading and displacement continuing, Sudan faces renewed pressure to find a route out of a war that has devastated millions of lives.
