R&B singer FREDDIE JACKSON dies just days after birthday, family announces




Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - R&B singer Freddie Jackson, the Grammy-nominated voice behind beloved 1980s hits including “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)” and “You Are My Lady,” has died at 70.

His family confirmed his death through his official Instagram account, saying he passed away on October 5, just three days after celebrating his 70th birthday. No cause of death has been disclosed, while his family said further details about memorial arrangements will be announced in the coming days.

Jackson became one of R&B's defining voices during the 1980s, with his smooth vocals helping him dominate the charts and contemporary radio.

His 1985 debut album, Rock Me Tonight, achieved platinum status and earned him two Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “You Are My Lady.” His follow-up album, Just Like the First Time, also went platinum and produced more major hits, cementing his place among the era's most recognizable R&B stars.

The singer revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with kidney disease and used his experience to raise awareness about the condition through a partnership with the National Kidney Foundation.
