Queen ELIZABETH's sharp three word-warning to Prince WILLIAM after he broke this royal rule

Monday, October 5, 2026 - Prince William once received a very public reminder from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, after briefly breaking royal protocol during Trooping the Colour in 2016.

While standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony, William bent down to speak to his young son, Prince George, who was struggling to remain still during the ceremony. The Queen noticed and delivered a blunt three-word instruction: “Stand up, William.” William immediately followed her order.

The moment quickly became one of the most memorable exchanges from the royal balcony. William had simply been responding to his two-year-old son, but the formal occasion required members of the Royal Family to maintain their public positions.

Queen Elizabeth’s intervention was captured on camera, giving millions watching a rare glimpse of the monarch correcting a senior member of her family in the middle of an official event.

It was not the first time William had experienced the Queen’s firm approach. He later recalled being strongly reprimanded by his grandmother as a child after a go-kart incident at Balmoral involving his cousins.

The Trooping the Colour exchange, however, showed that even as an adult and future king, William was still subject to his grandmother’s unmistakably direct instructions when royal protocol was at stake.
