ZELENSKYY says he plans to meet TRUMP in New York at end of September

Thursday, September 10, 2026 - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he plans to meet President Donald Trump in New York later this month as diplomatic efforts to end the war with Russia continue.

Zelenskyy said he expects the meeting around the end of September and hopes discussions with Trump can produce progress on key issues, including energy and grain.

The planned meeting comes as U.S.-led efforts to revive peace negotiations face major obstacles. American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have held talks with both Ukrainian and Russian officials, but no breakthrough has been reached.

Zelenskyy has welcomed what he described as worthwhile ideas from the U.S. side while insisting that negotiations must deliver concrete results for Ukraine.

The New York meeting could become an important moment for the next phase of diplomacy, particularly as Ukraine prepares for another difficult winter and seeks stronger air-defense support.

Zelenskyy is expected to push for additional military assistance while keeping the door open to negotiations. With trilateral talks unlikely before Russia’s September 20 parliamentary elections, attention is now turning to whether the planned Trump-Zelenskyy meeting can help restart stalled diplomatic efforts.
