Tuesday, September 8, 2026 - Spanish authorities have seized 1,238 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a shipment of coconuts in Seville, in a major drug-trafficking operation that has led to two arrests.
Investigators discovered the drugs concealed at the bottom of a truck trailer and underneath pallets carrying the legitimate cargo. The seizure highlights the scale and sophistication of efforts by criminal networks to move large quantities of cocaine into Spain through commercial supply chains.
The investigation began in December after authorities identified a company in Dos Hermanas, near Seville, that was allegedly being used to facilitate the entry of drugs into Spain.
Investigators subsequently identified a suspicious shipping container and placed it under surveillance before moving in when the shipment was being delivered to a warehouse. Searches of properties in the province of Seville also resulted in the seizure of cash and electronic devices believed to be relevant to the investigation.
Two people have been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking as authorities continue investigating the network behind the shipment. The operation involved Spain’s Tax Agency and Guardia Civil units specializing in customs enforcement, financial investigations and organized crime.
The seizure comes as Spanish authorities continue to intensify efforts against cocaine trafficking and the increasingly sophisticated methods used by criminal organizations to conceal drugs among ordinary commercial goods.
