Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - MUNA guitarist and keyboardist Naomi McPherson will miss the beginning of the band's upcoming fall tour to spend time caring for their terminally ill mother, Harriet.
The band announced that Harriet has been battling an extremely aggressive form of cancer that has worsened in recent weeks, with her passing expected to coincide with the start of the tour. McPherson will remain at home with their mother during her final days and will also handle family affairs afterward.
MUNA's North American tour is scheduled to continue as planned despite McPherson's absence. The musician will miss several early performances, including shows in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, Nashville and Atlanta.
Lou Roy will temporarily fill in for McPherson during the affected dates, allowing the remaining members of the group to keep the tour moving while their bandmate focuses on their family.
The band described the situation as one of the hardest moments they have faced and highlighted Harriet's deep influence on their music and lives. MUNA has also arranged for fans to leave letters for McPherson at merchandise stands during the shows they will miss.
The group says it hopes the performances can provide a way to honor Harriet while giving fans an opportunity to show their support for McPherson and the family during an intensely difficult time.
