London musical cancelled after ARIANA GRANDE and JONATHAN BAILEY drop out

Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - The planned London revival of Sunday in the Park with George has been cancelled after its two headline stars, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, withdrew from the production.

The Wicked co-stars were due to reunite on stage at the Barbican in 2027, with Grande set to play Dot and Bailey as George in the Stephen Sondheim musical.

Grande announced her departure in August as she stepped back from public visibility, while Bailey followed earlier this month, expressing his support for Grande and his appreciation for the production.

Producers initially planned to continue with new casting, but the project has now been called off for 2027 following the loss of both leading performers.

Despite the cancellation, the musical may not be gone for good. Empire Street Productions said it will retain the rights with a view to presenting the production in 2028, leaving the door open for a new cast and another attempt at the highly anticipated London revival.

The decision marks a major setback for a production that had generated significant attention because of the reunion of two of the biggest stars from Wicked.
