Thursday, September 17, 2026 - Bicycle couriers in Gaza are continuing to deliver food and essential goods despite bombardment, destroyed roads, fuel shortages, and the constant threat of injury or death.
With bicycles often the only practical way to move through damaged areas, couriers remain vital to daily survival.
Around 74% of Gaza’s road network was classified as destroyed in an April 2026 assessment by the World Bank, European Union, and United Nations.
Couriers reportedly earn only 50 to 60 shekels a day, while a single puncture repair can cost between 30 and 40 shekels.
The risks are devastating. Reports say between 40 and 50 couriers working for one delivery company have been killed during the war, yet hundreds continue riding because they have few other ways to earn money and support their families.
Their work reflects both the resilience and desperation of civilians trying to survive amid the destruction.
Protecting delivery workers, restoring safe transport routes, and providing reliable humanitarian support are increasingly urgent as Gaza’s basic services remain under severe pressure.
