Friday, September 18, 2026 - Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal’s squad
for its upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, with new head coach
Jorge Jesus retaining the 41-year-old captain.
Ronaldo had previously said that this summer’s FIFA World
Cup will be his final appearance at the tournament, but he has yet to reveal
when he plans to bring his international career to an end. He will be 43 years
old when the next major international tournament, the 2028 European
Championship, is staged.
The squad is the first named by Jesus since he took charge
of Portugal following the departure of Roberto Martinez.
Martinez left the role after Portugal suffered a 1-0 defeat
to Spain in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Jesus arrived at the national team after previously coaching
Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. The pair won the league together last
season.
Portugal will begin its Nations League campaign at home
against Wales on Sept. 24 before travelling to face Norway three days later.
Jesus’ side will then take on Denmark away on Oct. 1 before hosting Norway on Oct. 4.
