BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN wins appeal over vintage car on album cover

Wednesday, September 16, 2026 - Bruce Springsteen has won an appeal in a lawsuit involving the vintage car featured on the cover of his 2022 album Only the Strong Survive.

A New Jersey appeals court on September 15 upheld the dismissal of a case brought by the estate of classic-car collector Louis Billotti, whose 1967 Pontiac GTO appeared in the album artwork.

Billotti had been paid $1,200 for two photo sessions involving his car in 2021. After his death, his son alleged that Springsteen or someone representing him had promised additional payment if photographs of the GTO were used on an album cover or merchandise.

Springsteen denied making such a promise, and the courts found that the claim lacked sufficient supporting evidence, including witnesses or documents that could confirm the alleged agreement.

The appellate court ultimately agreed that the lawsuit should remain dismissed, citing the weakness of the evidence behind the alleged promise.

The ruling clears Springsteen, Sony Music Entertainment and his longtime manager Jon Landau from the claims, allowing the dispute over the iconic GTO album image to come to an end.
