Friday, September 24, 2026 - Andy Carroll has opened up about the breakdown of his marriage to Billi Mucklow, describing the relationship as a “car crash” and saying it was already “on its last legs” before they married in 2022.
In his new autobiography Owning It, the former England striker says their relationship began deteriorating after he left West Ham in 2019 and later moved to France for football. Carroll claims Mucklow had initially agreed to move with him but ultimately remained in England, leaving him separated from their children.
Carroll says the distance placed further pressure on an already struggling relationship. He describes spending two years largely apart from his children while playing in France and says he became increasingly depressed and drank heavily to cope with the situation.
Looking back, he writes that he eventually realized he missed having control of his life and being with his children, but did not miss being with Mucklow. The couple, who had been engaged for eight years, separated in 2024 after marrying in 2022.
The revelations put fresh attention on Carroll’s candid new autobiography, in which he discusses several difficult periods in his personal life and career. He has also publicly described a separate sexual assault that he says occurred in 2021 and was later prosecuted, making the book a particularly revealing account of experiences he says shaped his life.
Carroll is now in a relationship with stylist Lou Teasdale, while his former marriage to Mucklow remains a subject of intense public interest following his latest disclosures.
