Monday, August 17, 2026 - Türkiye and seven other Muslim-majority countries have jointly condemned Israel’s rejection of a roadmap aimed at advancing President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, warning that the move could derail efforts to end the conflict.
The group—Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan and Indonesia—said Israel’s position threatens implementation of the plan and undermines wider international efforts to secure lasting peace in Gaza.
The statement comes as Washington intensifies diplomatic efforts to revive the stalled proposal. The plan calls for Hamas to disarm, an Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza and the creation of a new civilian Palestinian administration, but major disagreements remain over which steps should come first.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the roadmap in its current form, insisting that Hamas must be fully disarmed before Israeli forces withdraw, while Hamas says Israel must first stop attacks and pull back.
The pressure is now building on Israel as U.S. envoy Jared Kushner holds talks with Hamas representatives in Cairo before meeting Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The eight countries urged sustained U.S. engagement to ensure the roadmap is implemented, making the coming diplomatic meetings potentially decisive.
With violence continuing and the peace process facing renewed uncertainty, the latest regional push signals growing concern that failure to reach agreement could further undermine efforts to end the Gaza conflict.
