Monday, August 3, 2026 - The sheriff leading the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has explained why authorities decided to release the ransom notes linked to the case months after they were first received.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators hope the public release will help someone recognize the wording, writing style, or details in the messages and provide a breakthrough in the unsolved kidnapping case.
The two notes, believed by investigators to be connected to Guthrie’s abduction, included a demand for millions of dollars in bitcoin and a later message claiming she had died after being taken. Officials had initially kept some details private to protect the investigation and preserve evidence that only the person responsible would know.
As the case remains active, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators believe even small details about the notes’ language, delivery, or possible connections could help identify those responsible and bring answers to Nancy Guthrie’s family.
