Wednesday, August 12, 2026 - Japanese punk band Otoboke Beaver have apologised after guitarist Yoyoyoshie threw her guitar into the crowd during an April 9 concert at Umeda Club Quattro in Osaka, striking and injuring a fan.
The audience member suffered a forehead laceration that required seven stitches and was also treated for a cervical sprain. The band has now accepted responsibility for the incident and acknowledged that the fan required hospital treatment.
The apology came nearly four months after the incident, with the band also expressing regret over the delay in addressing it publicly.
Otoboke Beaver said communication with the staff involved in handling the immediate aftermath was too slow and acknowledged that the delay increased the emotional burden on the injured fan. The group said it is continuing to work directly with the person during their recovery and is taking the incident seriously.
The incident has now put a spotlight on one of the band's famously unpredictable live-show traditions, with guitarist Yoyoyoshie's guitar tosses previously becoming part of their chaotic performances.
But after a fan was seriously hurt, the band has made clear that safety must take priority. Otoboke Beaver said it will work to ensure an incident like this does not happen again, turning a moment of punk-rock spectacle into a sharp warning about the risks of throwing instruments into packed crowds.
