Nike hires Walmart veteran EWING as Chief Commercial Officer

Thursday, August 27, 2026 -Nike is bringing in retail veteran Jane Ewing as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, effective September 7, as the sportswear giant pushes to accelerate its comeback.

Ewing will report directly to CEO Elliott Hill and join Nike’s senior leadership team, taking charge of the company’s global Marketplace organization, including sales and Nike Direct. The appointment comes at a critical moment as Nike works to rebuild sales momentum and strengthen its position across global markets.

Ewing joins Nike after nearly 14 years at Walmart, where she held senior roles across international operations, merchandising, sustainability and digital acceleration. Most recently, she served as an adviser and executive team member for Walmart China and previously served as interim CEO of Sam’s Club China.

Before Walmart, Ewing spent nearly nine years at Diageo. At Nike, she will oversee global sales, Nike Direct and marketplace analytics, with the goal of creating a more connected retail operation and strengthening relationships with wholesale partners.

The move signals how urgently Nike is targeting growth. Under Hill, the company has been refocusing on sport, improving its product pipeline and working to reconnect with consumers through both digital and physical retail.

Nike had eliminated the chief commercial officer position just months earlier, making its decision to restore the role particularly significant. Ewing’s retail and international experience will now be tested as Nike looks to turn its recovery strategy into stronger sales, deeper customer engagement and sustainable growth worldwide.
