Wednesday, August 19, 2026 - Miquita Oliver has opened up about how nature and gardening have helped her through difficult periods, including grief and heartbreak.

Speaking on the Outsiding nature podcast, the broadcaster described her garden as wild and passionate, saying that returning to the simplicity of gardening has helped her cope when life becomes overwhelming.

Her connection with nature also comes from her grandfather, who introduced her to birds, trees, walking and poetry during childhood summers in Suffolk.

Oliver also reflected on her decision to leave the BBC after two and a half years with Miss Me?.

She admitted that she initially struggled with the idea of leaving the broadcaster, describing herself as “institutionalised,” but said co-host Jordan Stephens encouraged her to be brave and believe in what they had created.

The podcast has since moved outside BBC Sounds, with Stephens joining Oliver as co-host.

Her latest comments reveal a more personal side of Oliver beyond her television and podcast career. From finding comfort in nature to confronting grief and embracing a new professional direction, she appears determined to build a life that gives her greater freedom and purpose.

For Oliver, leaving the BBC is not simply an ending but part of a wider reinvention that is already taking shape through new creative projects and her continued work in broadcasting.
