Tuesday, August 4, 2026 - Eight South Korean university students have been detained after allegedly trespassing into Osan Air Base, a major U.S. military installation south of Seoul.
According to authorities, the group entered through the main gate while chanting anti-U.S. slogans before being stopped by U.S. security personnel and handed over to South Korean police. The students are now under investigation for violating laws that protect military facilities.
Police say the eight students—four men and four women—are believed to be members of the Korean Progressive University Student Union.
The organization claims the protest was aimed at opposing what it describes as U.S. interference in a South Korean semiconductor development project. Investigators have not announced any formal charges, and the students reportedly exercised their right to remain silent during questioning.
The incident has drawn nationwide attention as authorities tighten security around sensitive military sites.
