Thursday, August 27, 2026 - Around 370 Palestinian children are currently being held in Israeli prisons, according to a new report from the Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy.
Most of the minors are reportedly detained at Megiddo and Ofer prisons, while Palestinian rights groups say the number highlights the continuing scale of child detention amid heightened tensions across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The report says Israeli forces detained 276 Palestinian children during the first six months of 2026 alone.
It also alleges that some Palestinians, including minors, are being held under administrative detention, a system that allows detention without formal charges or trial for renewable periods based on undisclosed evidence. Rights organizations have raised concerns about detention conditions and access to adequate food and medical care.
The figures are likely to intensify international scrutiny of Israel’s treatment of Palestinian minors.
With hundreds of children currently behind bars and new arrests continuing, rights groups are calling for greater transparency over the identities, ages, legal status and conditions of detained children.
The immediate focus is now on securing legal protections for minors and ensuring that allegations of mistreatment are independently investigated.
