Malaysia woman reschedules flight after child damages passport with scribbles: 'My heart wants to cry'

Monday, June 8, 2026- A Malaysian woman has been forced to reschedule her international travel after her child accidentally damaged her passport by scribbling on it, rendering it unusable for boarding and immigration checks.

The incident, shared online, quickly drew attention as she described her frustration and disappointment, saying, “My heart wants to cry.”

Travel authorities generally require passports to be in perfect condition, with any significant damage especially on identity pages or machine-readable sections making them invalid for travel.

Even seemingly minor alterations like ink marks, tears, or water damage can lead to denial at airport immigration checkpoints.

The situation has sparked widespread reactions online, with many sympathizing with the woman while others used it as a reminder of how strict international travel document rules can be.

It also highlights a practical travel lesson for families: keeping passports securely stored and away from children’s reach before and during trips is essential to avoid costly disruptions.
