Tuesday, June 30, 2026 - A woman has revealed that she still sucks her thumb and she asked for suggestions on how to stop.
The tech entrepreneur, who is in her 30s, took to Facebook
to make the revelation.
She wrote: "I was supposed to get braces for my teeth
as recommended by my dentist. But then, I have refused to get one because it
will obviously obstruct me from sucking the same thumb that scattered the teeth
in the first place.
"My dentist don call me tire, I kinda told him that he
will not understand the role my thumb sucking is playing in my life. It’s my
own pacifier. Like when I am sad, it calms me down and I will rather manage my
scattered teeth than learning how to cope with my Thumb.
"According to papa Ekwy, he said that immediately I was
born and the nurse handed me to him, the first thing he heard was the clicking
of my lips and tong sucking and while he was still trying to understand what I
was doing, I pushed my thumb into my tiny mouth and he was like, if it’s hunger
that chased me to the word that he will finish me with food.
"I made a comment on Blessing Akuakanwa post last week
and people were saying that I should apply bitter leaves to the thumb…. Like
you will look at a 30+ babe like me and you will think my parents didn’t do any
of that…. Like as a kid I will woke up suckling bitter leaves.
"The longest I have ever stayed without suckling my
thumb was when I had a wound on it and my constant suckling didn’t allow the
wound to heal properly as a kid and the thumb started swelling. The pain
couldn’t allow to suck for a while until it was properly healed. Before it
healed, I was happy telling everyone that I have stopped until …
"Truth is, I have gotten just so good at controlling
how and where I suck my thumb but in terms of stopping, that will be hard. Me
sef don try. The outcome of me sucking it outweighs the consequences. I hardly
get upset because once I starts sucking my thumb, you and what you did doesn’t
exit in my world anymore. It put me to sleep too.
"If you ever sucked, how did you stop as an
adult?"
