Celebrity Big Brother faces possible axe amid cost crisis and casting struggles

Tuesday, June 30, 2026- The future of Celebrity Big Brother is under serious pressure as reports suggest the show could be dropped due to rising production costs and growing difficulties securing high-profile celebrities.

Industry sources indicate that ITV is increasingly struggling to justify the budget required to deliver a star-driven lineup, especially as competing reality formats continue to dominate attention and talent bookings.

At the center of the problem is a shifting celebrity TV market. More A-list and mid-tier stars are now reportedly prioritizing shows with stronger cultural momentum and shorter filming commitments, with BBC’s Celebrity Traitors emerging as a major competitor pulling both viewers and talent away.

This has created a casting bottleneck that weakens Celebrity Big Brother’s ability to deliver the level of names expected from its revived format, increasing doubts over its long-term viability.

For broadcasters, the issue is no longer just ratings it’s sustainability. With production budgets tightening and competition between networks intensifying, entertainment commissioners are being forced to rethink which reality formats are worth maintaining.

While ITV has not made a final public decision, the situation highlights a broader industry shift where even established franchises are no longer guaranteed renewal if they cannot consistently attract both stars and strong audience engagement.
