Hamas warns of collapse of Gaza agreement after Israel kills 20 Palestinians in 48 hours

Friday, May 29, 2026-Hamas has warned that ongoing negotiations surrounding a Gaza ceasefire and hostage agreement are close to collapsing after Israeli military operations reportedly killed at least 20 Palestinians within 48 hours.

The latest strikes targeted multiple areas across Gaza, including densely populated neighborhoods where civilians were sheltering. Palestinian officials accused Israel of escalating attacks despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, while Israel said its operations were aimed at militant infrastructure and security threats linked to Hamas fighters.

The renewed violence has placed heavy pressure on mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States who have been attempting to secure a broader agreement involving hostages, humanitarian aid access, and temporary pauses in fighting.

Hamas officials warned that continued military escalation could destroy any remaining trust in negotiations, while humanitarian agencies raised alarm over worsening conditions for civilians trapped inside Gaza. Hospitals are reportedly overwhelmed, and aid organizations say food, medical supplies, and electricity remain critically limited.

The situation reflects how fragile diplomatic efforts have become as military operations continue alongside stalled negotiations. Analysts warn that every new wave of violence increases the risk of wider regional instability and makes long-term political solutions even harder to achieve.

With international pressure growing for an immediate ceasefire, the next few days could prove decisive in determining whether negotiations move forward or collapse entirely under the weight of escalating conflict and civilian suffering.
