Three wounded in Grand Central Station machete attack, MAMDANI confirms

Sunday, April 12, 2026- Three people were wounded in a violent machete attack inside Grand Central Station, sending panic through one of the busiest transit centers in New York City.

Authorities confirmed the suspect launched an unprovoked assault on commuters during the morning rush, leaving victims with serious injuries before police intervened. All three victims were rushed to hospital and are currently reported to be in stable condition.

According to officials, the attacker identified as a 44-year-old man was behaving erratically and ignored repeated police commands to drop the weapon. Officers ultimately opened fire after he advanced toward them, fatally shooting him at the scene.

Investigators say the attack appears random, with victims targeted without any known connection, intensifying concerns about public safety in major transit systems.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed the incident and praised the swift response by police, stating their actions prevented further bloodshed. Authorities have launched an internal review, with body camera footage expected to be released as part of the investigation.

The incident has once again put a spotlight on security, mental health concerns, and the growing unpredictability of violent attacks in crowded urban spaces.
