Michigan man is arrested in disappearance of wife in Bahamas

Friday, April 10, 2026-A Michigan man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of his wife while the couple was sailing in the Bahamas, in a case that has triggered an international search-and-investigation effort and growing scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Authorities say the woman, Lynette Hooker, 55, went missing near the Abaco Islands after reportedly falling overboard from a small dinghy during rough sea conditions. Her husband, Brian Hooker, 59, told investigators she was swept away by strong currents after the boat’s engine stopped, leaving him unable to rescue her before paddling to shore to seek help.

Bahamian police later took Hooker into custody for questioning after inconsistencies emerged in his account and concerns were raised during the ongoing investigation. Officials have not filed formal charges, but the case has shifted from a search-and-rescue operation to a recovery and criminal inquiry, with both U.S. and Bahamian authorities involved.

As the investigation continues, family members and investigators are working to reconstruct the events leading up to the disappearance. While Hooker denies wrongdoing, the case remains unresolved, with authorities continuing to examine evidence and witness statements to determine what happened at sea.
