Man kills 7 of his children and 1 other in mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, police say

Tuesday, April 21, 2026-A devastating mass shooting in Shreveport has left a community in shock after a father killed eight children—seven of them his own—in what authorities describe as a domestic incident.

Police say the suspect, identified as Shamar Elkins, carried out the attack early in the morning of April 19, 2026, across two homes in the Cedar Grove neighborhood.

The victims, ranging in age from 3 to 11 years old, included his children and a relative. Two adult women—his wife and ex-wife—were critically injured but survived.

Authorities reported that the shooting appeared to stem from a domestic dispute, possibly linked to a separation and ongoing legal tensions. The attack unfolded rapidly, with emergency calls coming in just before 6 a.m. After the killings, the suspect fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle, and led police on a chase into nearby Bossier City, where he later died following a confrontation with officers.

Officials have described the killings as “execution-style,” marking one of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States in over two years. Investigators are still working to determine a clear motive, but early findings indicate it was an isolated domestic act rather than a broader public attack.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over domestic violence, mental health, and access to firearms, as the community mourns the loss of eight young lives.
