Tuesday, April 28, 2026-A federal investigation into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting has revealed that the suspect described himself in a pre-attack message as a “friendly federal assassin,” according to law enforcement sources and court filings.
The message was reportedly sent to family members shortly before the incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton, where the annual political media event was being held.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, attempted to breach security while armed with multiple weapons and opened fire near a screening checkpoint.
A Secret Service agent was struck but protected by a ballistic vest, and agents quickly returned fire and subdued him before he could reach the main event area. He has since been charged with attempting to assassinate the president and multiple federal firearms offenses.
Investigators also report that the suspect had traveled cross-country in advance of the attack and left behind writings expressing grievances against government officials, suggesting the incident was politically motivated.
Authorities believe he acted alone, and the case is now focused on reconstructing his movements, communications, and planning in the days leading up to the shooting.
