Thursday, March 12, 2026-Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has pushed back strongly against claims by Donald Trump that the conflict with Iran would be short-lived. In a statement released through Iranian media, the IRGC said that Tehran—not Washington—will determine when the war ends, directly rejecting Trump’s suggestion that the fighting could conclude soon.
The IRGC said the future of the conflict is “in the hands of our armed forces,” adding that American forces cannot dictate the outcome or timeline of the war. Iranian officials also accused Trump of exaggerating military successes and trying to portray the campaign as nearly complete, despite ongoing strikes and retaliation across the region.
At the same time, Iran warned that continued attacks by the United States and its allies could trigger broader economic consequences. The IRGC said Tehran could take measures affecting global energy supplies, including blocking regional oil exports if military pressure continues. The warning highlights growing concerns about disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for global oil shipments.
Trump, meanwhile, has maintained that U.S. and allied strikes have significantly damaged Iran’s military capabilities and suggested the conflict is close to being resolved. However, Iran’s defiant response underscores how far apart the two sides remain on the war’s trajectory and raises the possibility that the confrontation could continue longer than expected.
