Tuesday, March 10, 2026-A classified U.S. intelligence assessment warns that even a large-scale military campaign against Iran would likely fail to remove the country’s ruling system. The report, prepared by the National Intelligence Council, concluded that Iran’s clerical and military leadership is deeply entrenched and structured to survive major external attacks.
According to the assessment, the country’s governing institutions are designed to maintain continuity of power even if senior leaders are killed. Analysts said established succession procedures would likely preserve the existing political system, including leadership structures tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and religious authorities.
The intelligence report also found that Iran’s opposition movements remain fragmented and lack the capacity to take control of the government if the current leadership were weakened. These conclusions raise doubts about whether military pressure alone—such as the campaign promoted by Donald Trump—could lead to regime change in Tehran.
Officials say the findings highlight the complexity of the conflict and suggest that even a major war may not fundamentally reshape Iran’s political system, despite escalating military operations and rising regional tensions.
